Farewell flowers are important to us, and an absolute privilege to create. Our process is a bit different from the usual way of ordering funeral flowers, as we take extra time and care to find out all about your loved one so that we can create a piece that is a true reflection of them. We believe that natural, seasonal flowers at a funeral should really change the feel of the day. The funeral itself is always going to be difficult experience, but beautiful flowers can install a sense of peaceful calm.
Myrtle & Bracken are proud to be part of a movement of Florists and Flowers Growers across the UK choosing to offer a more sustainable approach to funeral flowers. For too long, the mechanics have involved heavy use of plastic and floral foam, and we feel it’s time for a shift towards more sustainable options.
We work with beautiful, natural, seasonal flowers created using compostable mechanics. During the growing season April – October, we use UK grown materials in our funeral creations. Out of season, we use a mixture of dried materials, UK grown seasonal foliages and some imported flowers. We are often asked to cut from family gardens which is a real honour for us, to include special plants, cut flowers and foliages that can be used in the final flourish piece to make it truly special.
We create and deliver across Ayrshire and a little beyond when asked.

A little bit about me . . .
I am Di, and I have worked in just about every sector of the floristry sector for many years. I have done my time in traditional Funeral Florists over the years, and always found it to be quite a soulless experience. Orders would pile up on the bench, and you never really knew anything about the person that you were creating for, never mind what they themselves may have envisaged for their own farewell flowers.
When I created Myrtle & Bracken over a decade ago, it was always mainly about weddings and events. However, I have always quietly worked away in the background on beautiful, heartfelt farewell flowers. I rarely photograph them as the pieces are always so intimate and personal. But I feel now the time has come to start being a bit more open about what we do away from the glare and pressures of social media, and more importantly, about sustainability.
I believe in creating pieces that will change how you feel on the day of the funeral. Flowers that when you see them for the first time, you know it’s going to be okay. Difficult, but okay. That’s really important to me.
I am based in Ayrshire and work with a small creative team of flower lovers in our incredible byre, a real floral haven and peaceful space for creating.
